The machining and plating facilities provided by AEM are a unique in-house feature. They offer a service to customers in their own right and a resource to be drawn on by other business units within the company.

Machining

We have created an in-house precision machining facility capable of handling any requirement. The range of processes offered includes internal, external/surface and planetary grinding, turning, honing and horizontal and vertical milling/boring. A comprehensive tool-room provides further in-house support.

The NDT shop provides fluorescent dye penetrant and magnetic particle techniques. Both AC and DC inspection processes are available to highlight surface and sub-surface defects.

Plating

For components that require protective or build-up treatments, we offer a variety of processes. Before plating, for instance, components can be subjected to stress-relieving/de-embrittlement, shot peening, NDT, chemical cleaning or other processes.

The plating processes available include hard chrome, cadmium, nickel, copper, silver and tin. We offer manganese phosphating, chromating and alochroming. The facility can also undertake brush plating, enabling small areas to be locally plated with various metals.
